Get the transcript of any video directly inside your AI
Updated 04 May 2026 · TranscriptX editorial
You've been here: you find a YouTube video, you switch tabs to a transcription tool, you paste the URL, you wait, you copy the transcript back, you paste it into your AI conversation, you ask your question. Three context switches, four copy-pastes.
That's over.
TranscriptX just shipped MCP support. Your AI can now transcribe videos for you — from inside Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, Continue.dev, or Cline. No tab-switching, no copying, no leaving the chat.
What you can ask your AI now
Once TranscriptX is connected, these all work as one-shot prompts:
- “Transcribe this and pull out the three best quotes: <YouTube URL>”
- “Find Lex Fridman's last 5 episodes and summarize each in two sentences.”
- “Translate this Spanish video transcript to English: <URL>”
- “That last transcript looks garbled — retry as Japanese.”
- “Pull every video from this channel that mentions ‘agents' and write me a brief.”
The AI handles the loop for you: discover the URLs, transcribe them, summarize, surface the answer.
How to set it up
- Generate a personal token at /account/mcp.
- Paste the URL it gives you (
https://transcriptx.xyz/mcp/?token=…) into your AI client's MCP config. - Done.
Step-by-step for each client: /account/mcp/guide. The Claude flow is now a UI thing — Customize → Connectors → “+” → “Add custom connector” → paste. About a minute.
The five tools your AI gets
transcribe_url— feed it any public video or audio URL, it returns the transcript text and detected language. The core tool. 1 credit per call.list_creator_videos— give it a YouTube channel, TikTok profile, Spotify show, or Instagram profile URL and it returns the most recent N videos. The thing that unlocks agentic “summarize the last 10 episodes” workflows. 1 credit per 5 results.retry_transcript_language— auto-detect occasionally picks the wrong language. Tell the AI to retry as Spanish or Japanese; it re-runs the transcription with that language forced. Free — no credit charged.list_recent_transcripts— your transcript history, queryable from inside the chat.get_account_status— current plan and credit balance. Useful before bulk operations.
What changes
Two things are genuinely new versus the web product:
You don't switch tabs anymore
This sounds small. It isn't. Once you've used TranscriptX inside Claude for a week, going back to the tab-switch flow feels archaic. The AI is already in the conversation, the transcript shows up in the conversation, the analysis happens in the conversation. Friction-free.
Bulk workflows that weren't possible before
The list_creator_videos tool unlocks things you literally couldn't do on the web product:
- “Find the last 10 episodes of Acquired and tell me which ones cover SaaS pricing.”
- “Pull every Sunday sermon from this church's YouTube channel from January and write a summary doc.”
- “Get the most recent 5 Joe Rogan episodes and find the one where he talks about UFOs.”
The AI handles enumeration, transcription, and synthesis in one go. You ask once.
Pricing didn't change
Same monthly credit count. Free plan: 3 transcriptions/month, shared across web and MCP. Pro: unlimited. MCP doesn't add a new SKU.
What's not in v0.1
- OAuth. URL-token auth for now. OAuth is on the roadmap once we apply for the Anthropic Featured Connectors gallery.
- Streaming partial results. Tool calls return when complete. Most workflows don't need streaming; if yours does, let us know.
