How to Transcribe a Personal OneDrive Video
Updated 24 Apr 2026 · TranscriptX editorial
Step-by-step
1) Right-click the video in OneDrive
On onedrive.live.com (personal) or office.com/onedrive (work), right-click the .mp4 → Share.
2) Change to Anyone with the link
Default for work/school OneDrive is "People in your organization." Switch to Anyone with the link. Personal OneDrive defaults to Anyone-with-the-link already.
3) Copy link, paste on TranscriptX
transcriptx.xyz → paste → Transcribe.
Common things that break
- Work OneDrive with external sharing disabled. Same story as SharePoint — admin policy blocks external sharing. Download to laptop, re-upload to personal Drive or Dropbox, share from there.
- Password on the share link. Work/school OneDrive can add passwords. We can't type them. Remove or use Drive fallback.
- Expiring access. Admins can set share-link expiration. Check with the file owner if a previously-working link stops.
- Personal vs work OneDrive URL differences. Personal:
onedrive.live.com/...
. Work:
tenant-my.sharepoint.com/personal/...
. Both work, but they behave under different admin policies.

FAQ
Why is personal OneDrive different from the Teams/SharePoint flow?
Personal OneDrive has looser defaults and fewer admin controls. Work/school OneDrive is basically SharePoint under the hood — gated by your tenant's policies.
What about OneDrive mobile?
Same Share flow, different UI. Tap the file → Share → change access to Anyone-with-link, copy.
Is there a free-tier issue?
Free OneDrive gives you 5GB. If you're over quota, sharing might fail in weird ways. Check Drive status first.
