How to Transcribe a PeerTube Video

Step-by-step
1) Find the home instance
If you're watching on a mirror, look for a "View on original instance" link. The home instance is the one where the video was actually uploaded.
2) Copy the canonical URL
PeerTube URL format is instance.tld/w/VIDEO_UUID. Copy that from the browser.
3) Paste on TranscriptX
transcriptx.xyz → paste.
Common things that break
- Instance down or federating poorly. Smaller PeerTube instances go down regularly. If the home instance is unreachable, try a mirror. If no mirror, wait for it to come back.
- Instance-specific access rules. Each instance sets its own rules. Some require login even for public videos. If the video plays logged-out in a browser, it plays for us.
- Rate-limited instance. Some PeerTube admins aggressively rate-limit external scrapers. Our servers may get temporarily blocked — try again in an hour.
- Video redistributed from another federated service. PeerTube bridges exist (e.g., YouTube mirror instances). The rebroadcast quality is often lower — find the original if you can.
