How to Transcribe a Teachable Course Video
Updated 24 Apr 2026 · TranscriptX editorial
Quick answer: Creators: export the video from your Teachable admin (or re-upload your original source file). Students: if downloads are enabled, grab the file; otherwise ask the creator. Upload to Drive, paste on TranscriptX.
Step-by-step
1) Creator: export from Teachable admin
Admin → School → Curriculum → the lecture. Download the source video.
2) Student: student downloads if enabled
Below the video, if the creator enabled downloads, right-click Save.
3) Upload to Drive, paste
Drive flow → paste on TranscriptX.
Common things that break
- Teachable doesn't transcribe natively. Like Kajabi, Teachable is course-delivery focused. External transcription is the standard path.
- Student downloads disabled. If the creator blocks downloads, students can't grab the file. Ask the creator.
- Hosted on Wistia / Vimeo underneath. Depending on the Teachable plan, videos may be hosted on Wistia or Vimeo. Sometimes going through those platforms directly is easier — see our Wistia and Vimeo guides.

FAQ
Is this different from Kajabi?
Same conceptual flow. URL patterns and admin UI differ. Kajabi leans Wistia; Teachable uses Wistia or Vimeo. Grab the source file either way.
What about Teachable:u (the student app)?
Same rule — authentication required, creator-enabled downloads only.
